Ribbed Globular Stone Vessel
Material: Stone
Object Type: Vessel / Container
Period:……………….
Probable Region: Gandhāra / Northwestern South Asia
Function: Storage or domestic container
A squat, globular stone vessel with a circular opening at the top and a rounded, compact body. The exterior is characterized by a series of shallow vertical ribs or undulating flutes extending around the body, producing a distinctive melon-like appearance. The ribs are softly rounded rather than sharply incised, giving the surface a gently undulating profile.
The vessel has a relatively thick wall and a smoothly finished, hollow interior. Its broad body gradually narrows toward the lower portion, terminating in a slightly flattened base. The surface displays natural variations of brown, beige, and reddish-brown, with areas of wear consistent with age and use. No handle or spout is visible.
The combination of the globular form and melon-like ribbing gives the vessel both a functional and decorative character. It may have served as a small container for liquids, oil, foodstuffs, or other materials, although its precise function cannot be established without archaeological context.
