Description:
This elegant bronze mirror features a circular reflective disk mounted on an openwork cylindrical handle composed of vertical bronze rods. The surface of the mirror shows traces of intricate geometric engraving, now partially obscured by age and corrosion. The greenish patina and mineral encrustation attest to its long burial and ancient origin.
Bronze mirrors such as this were prized personal items in ancient societies, symbolizing beauty, refinement, and sometimes spiritual purity. The openwork handle not only provided a lightweight grip but also an aesthetic balance, suggesting both utility and artistry.
Decorative Features Observed
* Diamond-pattern band: This is a geometric border motif often seen in Bactrian metalwork. It signifies a developed decorative aesthetic combining geometry and symmetry.
* Six-petaled floral medallions: These are rosette or lotus-like designs, very common across Persian, Central Asian, and Gandharan artistic traditions, symbolizing cosmic order or divinity.
* The combination of concentric circles, floral geometry, and precise symmetry is typical of 1st BC–3rd  century CE.
