Miniature Stone Pitcher
Material: Stone
Object Type: Miniature pitcher / small vessel
Period: Gandhāran / Kushan Period (tentative)
Approximate Date: 1st–3rd century CE (tentative)
Probable Region: Gandhāra, northwestern Pakistan
This is a small, rounded terracotta pitcher with a compact globular body and a large circular opening. The vessel has a short, thickened mouth and a broad, rounded body that gradually narrows toward the base. The exterior surface is uneven and preserves visible hand-forming and smoothing marks, together with areas of abrasion, weathering, and dark surface deposits.
The vessel’s small size and simple rounded form suggest that it may have served a miniature, ritual, funerary, or symbolic purpose rather than ordinary household storage. The Stone fabric and form are compatible with small vessels from the Gandhāran cultural region.
